Prince Harry is set to marry American actress Meghan Markle next month in a royal wedding that many are calling the wedding of the year. Though the royal couple is undoubtedly excited for the wedding, their nuptials have stirred up some problems in the Markle family that have just gotten very ugly.
Fox News reported that Meghan’s estranged half-sister, Samantha Grant, took to Twitter this week to blast the actress for not inviting members of the Markle family to her wedding. In a wild Twitter rant, Grant also claimed that both she and Meghan are 15th cousins to Harry.
“And it’s not only Meg who is 15th cousin to Harry. My brother and I are also. I was the first born Markle to my father. Exclude the [Markles] from this wedding would be highly inappropriate,” Grant tweeted on Thursday morning alongside a photo of a family tree that claims the Markle family is related to the British royal family.
“At issue is not a matter of closeness as more than 1000 complete strangers are invited. Family is family,” Grant tweeted yesterday. “I have an uncle I have only seen once but I would never say he is not family because we are not close. Humanitarians move forward with love and kindness especially to Family.”
“Smoke and mirrors cannot hide the elephant in the room,” Grant continued. “Out of respect, tradition, and humanitarianism, the #Markles should be invited if 2000 complete strangers are invited. Our uncle who got her the internship, brother, me, best friend of 30 years Nikki Priddy, nephews. Fact.”
Who is attending the royal wedding?
Grant is likely referring to the fact that of the 2,640 people invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle for the royal wedding, 1,200 are members of the public.
Meghan and Grant have reportedly been estranged for years, and the elder sister has spoken out against the actress in the past.
“Hollywood has changed her. I think her ambition is to become a princess…The truth would kill her relationship with Prince Harry,” Grant said recently.
One family member who is rumored to be invited, however, is Meghan and Grant’s father Tom, as it is believed that he will be walking her down the aisle.
This messy family issue has undoubtedly put a bit of a damper on Meghan’s wedding planning. Families are always complicated, and it’s clear that the Markles are no exception. While it’s sad that Meghan has decided not to invite her sister to her wedding, we can also understand why she would not want a family member there who has betrayed her in the past by airing her dirty laundry in the past. Hopefully, after the royal wedding, Meghan and Grant can find a way to reconcile some day.
