His Wrestling Career Started at the Age of Sixteen!

Gargano started training to become a professional wrestler at the age of sixteen, but his passion for the business goes back much further than that. Gargano’s father hosting a wrestling event in his restaurant’s parking lot, leaving a lasting impression on Gargano when he was only eight! So, this man is a prime example of where wrestling became much more than a living, it became a passion.

Two Long Title Reigns

 

Those of you who follow the indies closely may already be familiar with the extensive track record of Johnny Gargano. Aside from being one of the NXT tag team champions, he was also the Dragon’s Gate USA longest title holder and a two-time Open the Freedom Gate Champion. He successfully defended the latter title a whopping twenty-five times.

He Is Married to Candice Le Rae

It is not uncommon for wrestlers to marry other wrestlers, after all, they are the only ones who understand the grueling sacrifices accompanying professional wrestling. Johnny Gargano is married to women’s superstar Candice Le Rae, who was recently signed by NXT and is featured in the Gargano’s feud vs. Andrade Almas and Zelina Vega.

The Champion of Liechtenstein

Johnny Gargano was not always Johnny Wrestling. He even made his debut in the WWE in 2007 under the name Cedrick Van Haussen (the Champion of Liechtenstein). Yes, it was not the best of gimmicks, but it was sure funny. He wrestled MVP who was in the middle of a feud with Chris Benoit for the United State title.

F.I.S.T. FTW!

Johnny Gargano is a member of F.I.S.T., which stands for Friends in Similar Tights. The faction stems from Gargano’s time in Chikara, where the beloved Johnny Wrestling was a heel along with Chuck Taylor and Icarus. Good times…
