Dana White On Cris Cyborg-Amanda Nunes, Conor McGregor, Max Holloway

UFC president Dana White agrees with Cris Cyborg.

After watching Cyborg demolish Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222 Saturday night, White told reporters at the post-fight press conference that the bout to make is Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes.

And the earlier the better.

It had been rumored that Nunes would defend her bantamweight belt vs. Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in the coming months in Brazil. But with Cyborg having no trouble keeping her featherweight title intact, White is moving forward with the idea of pairing the two Brazilians up against one another.

White added that he will need to talk with Cyborg, but she made it known both in her post-fight interview inside the Octagon and on FOX Sports 1 that she wants Nunes as well.

“Cyborg is a beast,” White said. “The fight to make is her and Nunes. That’s the fight that needs to happen.”

In years past, White was a regular at the microphone during post-show press conferences. His return this weekend brought with it more news.

White confirmed that Conor McGregor did in fact offer to step in and face Frankie Edgar when Max Holloway was injured, but the move “didn’t make sense.”

“It’s true, Conor did say I’ll take that fight with Frankie, but he’s not in that weight division and the fight was already made between (Brian) Ortega and Frankie,” White added. “When he said he would take it, it was something like 24 days to the fight. Nothing about it made sense.”

Edgar’s team denied McGregor making the request, as the reigning UFC lightweight champion has not fought in over a year inside the Octagon.

Ortega, meanwhile, who finished Edgar in the first round, was declared the next challenger to Holloway’s featherweight title by White. He said once the champion is cleared, that is the fight they will make in the division.
