Rick Harrison of “Pawn Stars” is always looking to buy something exciting, and in demand, that he can resell in his Las Vegas store. That’s why he got excited when a rather flamboyant man said he was willing to sell his prized Babe Ruth memorabilia.
The tan man with big hair claimed he had the bat that Babe Ruth used when he “called the shot.” This occurred during the fifth inning of the third game of the 1932 World Series. Babe Ruth pointed to the center-field bleachers like he was going to slam a ball that way. On the very next pitch, he did exactly that. This is the holy grail of baseball memorabilia.
The man insisted this was the bat that was coveted by baseball fans around the world. Rick was thrilled to have the opportunity to own and sell it, but like any good businessman, he had to check it out first.
Rick took pictures of the bat and took them to an expert to see if this was actually the “called shot” bat. It’s a lucky thing that he did do his research because the man who looked like he escaped from Willy Wonka’s factory was pushing a phony bat on Rick.
One, two, three strikes, and this man was out! This man either was looking for his 15 minutes of fame or was completely taken advantage of by the person who sold it to him.
Maybe his 15 minutes of fame didn’t work out like he was hoping for. He didn’t get any cash for the bat. Perhaps he needed the money for extra mousse for his hair, but he didn’t get any from the “Pawn Stars!”
