Fighting Antelope Don’t See Leopard Lurking Behind Them

It’s rough out in the wild. Animals always have to be on the lookout, or they will soon find themselves as a predator’s next meal.

A couple of antelope quickly learned this lesson the hard way. The males were engaged in a battle over territory and they proceeded to lock antlers while fighting. Unbeknownst to them, a leopard lurked and waited for them to grow tired from the struggle. After the antelopes clashed for 10 minutes, the big cat made its move and jumped on the closest antelope.

The opposing antelope didn’t see this at first and continued fighting and chasing its rival, who was trying to run free from the leopard that was clawed onto it. When that antelope finally noticed the cat, it fled as fast as a respectable woman would run from Bill Clinton.

Then, the injured antelope was left to battle the leopard all by itself. The odds didn’t appear to be in the antelope’s favor. Afterall, he was already exhausted from his fight with the other male antelope when the big cat suddenly attacked. His energy was drained, and now he was in a fight for his life with a powerful predator.

Safari guide Thomas Nkwazi, caught this all on video while accompanying four guests on a trip in the Okavango Delta area of Botswana. Nkwazi says this was the photo opportunity of a lifetime, especially with how things ended.

That was amazing. I would have never guessed that the antelope would have been able to shake free of that leopard. It escaped with only minor scrapes and lived to fight another day.

A baby bison also found itself in a dangerous situation when it was stranded. Right when all hope for the little fellow seemed gone when a wolf attacked, his mom miraculously appeared. Occasionally the little guy does win! Click here to watch that remarkable video.
