Hatchimals are one of the most sought-after gifts this Christmas season, but a mother’s Facebook post has gone viral after she claimed that a Hacthimals brand bath bomb gave her daughter chemical burns.
On Dec. 7, Jennifer Renee wrote on Facebook, “PSA! Do NOT buy this for your children! Followed directions on package and placed in her bathtub. Thought it would be fun for her because there was a toy inside. After being in the water 30-45 seconds she stated her skin was hurting, upon looking she has received a chemical burn from a KIDS BATH BOMB.”
Jennifer said that her daughter has used several other bath bombs without suffering any adverse reactions. She also claims that she called the company and that the batch number is “being investigated and is likely going to be recalled as numerous reports have been made (not all the burning reaction she got).”
The post has since been shared more than 130,000 times and received more than 13,000 reactions.
Hatchimals’ parent company, Spin Master, issued a statement that they are “aware of the situation” and are “in the process of looking into the matter.”
Spin Master has been looking into the matter with the manufacturer and licensee to whom we license the Hatchimals brand. Safety is our top priority and we are deeply saddened to learn of the girl’s injuries. At this point, Global Brands Group has not found any indication of a product defect or manufacturing issue. Additionally, the product formulation has been subject to stringent safety testing and meets all industry standards.
Global Brands Group, the company to which the Hatchmals brand is licensed, also issued a statement saying, “After careful review, we are confident our Hatchimals bath products are, in fact, safe. However, it is recommended that consumers be mindful of any adverse reactions they may have based on personal allergies or sensitivities.”
