People Can’t Decide What Two Colors Are Painted On This Dresser

A chest of drawers is causing a lot of debate for an unusual reason. People are arguing over what colors it is. The dresser is painted in two different colors, but some people see it much differently than others. Now, this optical illusion is going viral.

The picture was posted on Reddit by user agamiegamer, who asked for comments on the online forum: “What colour do you see?” People replied, but not everyone agreed. Some saw blue and grey, while others saw white and pink, or even blue and pink. Someone even replied that he saw purple and green.

What colors do you believe this chest of drawers is?

One person was adamant about her vision. “Well it’s definitely pink and white, but the lighting makes the white appear light blue but anybody with a brain can tell it’s actually white,” she confidently wrote.

One commenter changed the white balance to match the whiteboard on the dresser. The result of that is below.

The original poster settled the debate by confirming it is actually painted blue and gray. Is that the color you saw?

This is the same debate we had in 2015 when a picture of a dress went viral. People argued whether it was blue and black or gold and white. Click here to see that dress.

Stephen Hannon, a Clinical Services Director at Optical Express, explained the science between people seeing different colors while looking at the same item.

Light enters the eye and hits the retina, which is the light sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.

The light is converted to an electrical signal which travels along the Optic Nerve to the Visual Cortex in the brain. The brain makes its own unique interpretation of this electrical signal.

We perceive an object’s colour based on a comparison to its surrounding shades, not on the actual colour itself.

Assessing colour vision is just one of the myriad of examinations that can be undertaken during a routine sight test. It’s possible for colour blindness to go undetected depending on severity – as it’s impossible to see the world through another person’s eyes.

Share this to see if your friends agree with you on the color!
