Legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully has weighed in on the National Anthem protests by NFL players. The typically mild-mannered Scully didn’t mince words when he said that he will never watch another NFL game because he stands with our veterans.
Scully was the voice of the Dodgers for 67 years, taking the microphone when the team was still in Brooklyn. His comments should carry some weight and warning to the NFL that this protest is viewed as anti-American to many of us.
At “An Evening with Vin Scully” at the Pasadena (California) Civic Auditorium, the retired broadcaster was asked how the NFL owners, commissioner, and players should address the ongoing protests during the National Anthem. Scully referenced the fact that he is a veteran and has tremendous respect for those who defend our country. He made it clear that he continues having a great deal of respect for his fellow veterans.
“I have only one personal thought, really, and I am so disappointed. I used to love, during the fall and winter, to watch the NFL on Sunday. It’s not that I’m some great patriot. I was in the Navy for a year. Didn’t go anywhere, didn’t do anything, but I have overwhelming respect and admiration for anyone who puts on a uniform and goes to war. So, the only thing I can do, in my little way is not to preach — I will never watch another NFL game.”
Scully’s decisive words were met with a loud round of applause from those in attendance. The NFL needs to watch the video below and take note of the fans they are alienating by permitting protests during the National Anthem.
Scully’s message is resonating with a lot of Americans who feel alienated because of this protest. They just want to watch football and not be lectured on a political viewpoint they feel is anti-American. Like Scully, they will walk away from the NFL.
Share this if you stand with Vin Scully and our veterans!
