DKNY Designer Donna Karan has landed in hot water after she made some questionable comments in defense of Harvey Weinstein. This was following explosive allegations of sexual assault that got him fired from his own film studio, The Weinstein Company, on Sunday.

While appearing in Los Angeles for the CineFashion Film Awards, Karan suggested to a reporter that perhaps Weinstein’s alleged victims were “asking for it” because of the way they were dressed:

“’To see it here in our own country is very difficult, but I also think how do we display ourselves? How do we present ourselves as women? What are we asking? Are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality?”

This is textbook victim-blaming – and the backlash against Karan was unsurprisingly swift. In a statement Monday, Karan said her remarks were taken out of context. “Sexual harassment is NOT acceptable and this is an issue that MUST be addressed once and for all, regardless of the individual,” she said.

Karan is longtime friends with Weinstein, but her comments are truly appalling as she is both a woman and a fashion designer – she should know better than most how clothes are a means of empowerment for women. Furthermore, Karan is a noted liberal; she was involved with the Clinton Foundation’s Global Initiative program for 10 years. Aren’t liberals supposed to be renowned for their feminism?

As veteran Wayne Dupree explains in the video below, liberals tend to have diarrhea of the mouth and don’t think before they speak. That’s exactly what seems to have happened to Donna Karan.

Do agree with Wayne that Donna Karan’s comments are completely incorrect and out of line? Share your thoughts below!
