With Maia up next for himself, Covington views the former middleweight title challenger as the perfect stepping stone to facing Woodley. The two have had quite the social media feud, as Woodley previously trained at ATT.

“I do believe I will get a title shot after I win,” Covington said. “I’m going to beat Demian Maia worse than Woodley did.

“I truly believe I’m the best welterweight in the world right now and I’m coming for Tyron Woodley!”

In recent weeks, Covington has joined the ATT feud against pro wrestlers at Impact Wrestling. He said that back at Iowa Central, there would be some “crazy, fun pro wrestling type moves, especially on trips to tournaments in the hotels and warming up” between the wrestlers. His decision for getting involved in the angle, though, was because of the passion for the sport that was developed at a young age.

“Pro wrestling is something I fell in love with when I was a little kid,” he said. “It’s also another opportunity to make a living because in fighting, you only get paid when you fight. If I can make some new fans and have some fun in the pro wrestling world, then I will continue down that path.

“Some people will hate me and some will love me, but as long as you’re tuning in to watch, then enjoy watching what I accomplish. I just decided to not care what people think of me and just be myself.”
