Motherhood is hard. And it’s even harder when a new mom is struggling with something as debilitating as postpartum depression. Unfortunately, it’s a battle many moms go through – including Ivanka Trump. Recently, Trump candidly revealed that she struggled with postpartum depression after giving birth to each of her three children.
This was a deeply personal revelation for Ivanka to make, and you would think women would line up to offer their sympathy. Instead, they lined up to offer their ridicule.
Some women said outright that Ivanka deserved to go through postpartum depression.
Others even had the nerve to suggest that Ivanka made it all up in order to appear more relatable.
Others still downplayed Ivanka’s story by suggesting that her money somehow made her struggle less serious.
The irony here is that if you asked any one of these women if they were feminists, they’d likely say yes. And therein lies one of the biggest problems with modern feminism: they preach inclusion, solidarity, and equality for all, but what they really mean is inclusion, solidarity, and equality for people who think exactly like them. It’s completely hypocritical and, quite frankly, sad.
It was brave of Ivanka to speak out about her struggle with something that so many other moms have gone through. Whether you agree with Ivanka’s politics or not, attacking her for something so human is nothing short of disgusting.
