Beau Dermott was a shy 12-year-old girl when she walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage in 2016. Given her mannerisms, it was almost impossible to predict what was going to happen when she started to perform.
She chose to sing “Defying Gravity” from the musical Wicked. This is an incredibly challenging song to sing. Simon Cowell’s expression betrayed the fact that he wasn’t really looking forward to hearing this performance.
But, when Beau began to sing, her shyness completely gave way to confidence and a simply amazing voice that had the audience member’s jaws on the floor. Even Simon was cheering! You might be surprised at this 12-year-old’s epic performance in the video below, which earned her a Golden Buzzer from Amanda Holden!
Beau didn’t win the entire competition, but she did land a record deal by age 13. She also got to perform in front of Queen Elizabeth! This isn’t what anyone expected when that shy girl walked onto the stage!
