Sean “X-Pac” Waltman Reveals That Chyna Was The “Magic Ingredient” in DX

This week WWE celebrates the 20th anniversary of the formation of D-Generation X. The group that broke all the rules and defined the Attitude Era. They were raunchy, funny, irreverent and relevant all at the same time. They were more than the “crotch chops” and slogans. They defined what wrestling would become for an entire generation. They infuriated old school types but brought way more fans to wrestling. They truly were a defining group. But what made them REALLY stand out?

In a tweet, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman revealed who the “magic ingredient” to DX was. We have to agree with him on this. Without this one member, DX wouldn’t be as notable.

Chyna’s impact on wrestling is undeniable. She broke the mold for wrestlers regardless of gender. She was the first real female heavy and she proved she could go with the boys. She was a spectacle to be sure. She could have been so much more. There were even rumors that Vince McMahon planned to have Chyna beat Stone Cold Steve Austin to become WWF champion. Now wouldn’t that have been something? Can you imagine a female champion over a sport dominated by men?

Chyna’s career was cut short but allegations, insecurities, and backstage politics. She might be one the biggest “What ifs?” in wrestling history. She could have been the biggest star. She could have evolved beyond a “freak show” and into a legitimate contender in her own right.

She has not yet been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Hopefully, this happens sooner rather than later. I know there are a lot of hurt feelings and awkward situations. But Joan Laurer is no longer with us. Let the fans and WWE remember her legacy. The true Ninth Wonder of the World deserves to be memorialized by the company she helped put on the map.
