Injuries happen in wrestling. It is a reality of a physical business that is year-round. Because of the constant moving and wrestling, wrestlers are bound to get hurt every once in a while. But this weekend, the injury bug struck TWICE. Unfortunately, it was two top talents. But one injury will have stronger consequences than the other. Let’s look into them and see what the implications will be for WWE’s plans moving forward.

Xavier Woods

According to Reddit user MaxMahem, New Day member Xavier Woods injured his knee during a live event and needed to be helped to the backstage area. While this isn’t good news, it won’t harm The New Day too much. Since the team follows the “Freebird Rule” any combination of the three wrestlers can work at any one time. Earlier this year, the team had to make due without Kofi Kingston. Woods is also the chief mouthpiece of the group. So if he is gone, then more mic duties will be given to Big E and Kingston. If the injury is minor, Woods will still be able to accompany his team ringside.

Below is the footage of Woods injuring his leg while attempting a tornado DDT.

Woods was present at the Smackdown taping. He was walking, but with a noticeable limp. He also addressed the injury rumors in a unique fashion.

Samoa Joe

The next injury may be more serious and have more lasting implications. Samoa Joe suffered a leg injury over the weekend, and plans for Raw had to be changed.

via PWI:

As PWInsider.com reported earlier today, the plans for Raw originally iincluded (sic) Samoa Joe vs. John Cena. Obviously, that match did not happen.

The word backstage is that Joe suffered some sort of knee injury at the house show loop over the weekend at the live event in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where he lost to Cena. Joe did not work last night’s live event in Tupelo, MS as originally scheduled. The belief among those we’ve spoken to is the injury could keep Joe out for at least four weeks. WWE has not officially acknowledged the injury as of this writing.

That’s bad news. Joe is a main event star and destined for big things. Cena and Reigns’ feud is kicking into high gear, and it seems Joe was going to be a foil for the two moving forward. Thankfully this is considered a “down” time for WWE. Hopefully, Joe can get the rest and healing he needs and be back shortly.
