Wrestlers who come from indie circles into the WWE are often worried, because many ideas that are often popular in the indies are snuffed out in the WWE. Of course, the same applies to wrestling stars in NXT, who get their gimmick snuffed out once they arrive on the main roster. Here are some examples of creative ideas snuffed out by or at the WWE!
When Gallows and Anderson made their debut about the same time as A.J. Styles, the WWE Universe was so excited about having The Club in the WWE (which also included Fin Balor).
Gallows and Anderson were not used to their maximum potential though. Instead of treating them as a real treat, Anderson and Gallows were stuck doing some minor funny sketches and were lost in the mix shortly afterward.
It took a long time before Sting ended up in the WWE, especially considering the fact that Sting was the poster-boy for WCW back in the day.
For Sting’s return, many would have preferred a match between the Undertaker and Sting. Instead, Sting would lose his matches against Triple H at WrestleMania. Shortly after, he was forced to retire due to injuries. The uniqueness of Sting? Left unused by the WWE with an underwhelming rivalry, which was frankly fourteen years too late. It would not have been so if he faced the Undertaker though.
Zack Ryder made it into the WWE due to his popularity on YouTube, where he created his own gimmick and persona. When his social media channel went viral with 2.19 million followers on Twitter alone, the WWE finally sat up and took notice.
Of course, in true WWE style, the creative team did not support the idea that they did not create. Despite being endorsed by major stars such as the Rock and John Cena, Zack Ryder was put in the background once again after only a brief push in 2011. He could have been as big as Daniel Bryan, but the WWE creative team snuffed it out.
Vader was one of the most interesting personas to come from the WCW stock. However, the WWE failed to use him effectively due to a large number of superstars that were invading the WWF roster at the time. In the end, Vader was turned into a jobber. Shortly after, he left the company forever. Unfortunately, the WWE missed out on an excellent heel.
One of the retired wrestlers I used to love was Diamond Dallas Page. During his time at WCW, Diamond Dallas Page had an unrivaled connection to the wrestling universe, which made him loved!
Unfortunately, the end of WCW also spelled the end of Diamond Dallas Page as a champion of people. Instead, the WWE used him in a stalker-type story that never hit off.
