colin Aaron Rodgers Colin Kaepernicksupport

Colin Kaepernick is one of the most unpopular individuals in football, and for good reason. His refusal to stand for the National Anthem, as well as his vocal support for the radical Black Lives Matter movement, has made him toxic in the NFL.

Kaepernick’s actions have resulted in him being essentially blacklisted from the NFL, with no team willing to sign him for the upcoming season.

Despite all of the harsh criticism the former San Francisco 49er has received, Kaepernick is receiving support from an unlikely source: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

In a recent interview, Rodgers, who says he will always stand for the National Anthem himself, understands why players like Kaepernick refuse to do the same.

Rodgers explained that Kaepernick “should be on a roster right now. I think because of his protests, he’s not.” Rodgers explained that while he will stand for the anthem “I’m also 100 percent supportive of my teammates or any fellow players who are choosing not to. They have a battle for racial equality. That’s what they’re trying to get a conversation started around. I think the best way I can say this is: I don’t understand what it’s like to be in that situation. What it is to be pulled over, or profiled, or any number of issues that have happened, that Colin was referencing — or any of my teammates have talked to me about. … But I know it’s a real thing my black teammates have to deal with.”

Rodgers’ surprising support for Kaepernick took many by surprise, including military veteran Wayne Dupree, who argues that Rodgers is missing the bigger picture. Dupree believes that while Kaepernick’s off-the-field antics have hurt his chances in the NFL, the real reason Kaepernick cannot get signed is that he is not talented enough to play in the NFL.
