Publix recall

National supermarket chain Publix has just issued a voluntary recall for its Tropical Medley Mix over concerns that it may be “adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.”

According to the FDA, products that contain Listeria monocytogenes “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

Publix released a statement about the voluntary recall:

As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves. To date, there have been no reported cases of illness. Consumers who have purchased the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund. Publix customers with additional questions may call our Consumer Relations department at 1-800-242-1227 or by visiting our website at www.publix.com. Customers can also contact the US Food and Drug Administration at 1-888-SAFEFOOD (1-888-723-3366).”

Thankfully, no one has gotten sick from the potentially contaminated product, but Publix is taking the necessary steps to ensure that all product potentially affected be removed from the shelves.

If you have purchased Publix Tropical Medley Mix, please do not eat it and return it to the store for a full refund.
