Edge Confirms He is “Medically Disqualified” And Will Never Wrestle Again

Adam Copeland, aka Edge, is one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. He transitioned smoothly from ground-breaking tag team specialists to a massive top of the card player who main evented Wrestlemania and held numerous belts.

However, his career ended suddenly in 2011 after doctors diagnosed him cervical spinal stenosis. This injury led to Edge announcing his retirement effective immediately.

Cervical spinal stenosis is the degeneration and narrowing of the spinal column around the base of the neck. Stenosis leads to muscle, bone, and vertebrae pressing down upon your spinal cord. This happens with repeated neck and head trauma, a common injury among wrestlers. If it is left untreated or aggravated, stenosis can lead to numbness, muscular weakness, paralysis, and possibly death. In short, it is not an injury from which you return.

But, being a fan favorite, Edge is always asked if he could ever make a comeback. He took to his podcast, shared with fellow Canadian Christian, to put the rumors to rest once and for all. Here’s what Edge has to say about his future in wrestling.

What Edge has to say about his future.

“I appreciate that people always ask me, ‘oh, so you’re going to come back for one more match, right?’ It’s a huge complement that you want me to come back for one more match; however, it can never, ever happen. The WWE has medically disqualified me from ever wrestling again, so for those listening, that’s the way it is, but I appreciate you wanting more.”

Edge seems at peace with the decision. Though of course, it wasn’t easy for him. Edge knew it was coming, but it still hurt.

So, consider that definitive. Edge will not wrestle again. I know it sucks. But think about his future. Think about his kids and his family and his health. He doesn’t want to spend his years in a wheelchair or with numbness in his body.

Something we have to think about is that these wrestlers owe us nothing. Especially their bodies. They gave us so much in their performances. They gave us their bodies. And when it is time for them to go, it is time for them to go. We have to respect that. We have to remember the memories Edge gave us. I thank him for that.

I feel the same way about Edge that I do about Daniel Bryan. They’ve both given us so much. But they need to have their future after wrestling. They have families they want to spend time with after years on the road. It is OK to let them go. Edge will forever be known as one of the greats. He can come back once a year and get a big crowd reaction. He’s been involved with a few angles and still has the Edge & Christian Show on the WWE Network.

Edge still totally reeks of awesomeness, and he can continue to entertain crowds in the ring or on the television and movie screen.

If a wrestler is retired, let them be retired. Let them enjoy their life. It is the least we can do for them after all they’ve given us.
