Longtime country fans are familiar with Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s “After The Fire Is Gone.” The duet shot to the top of the charts in 1971 and is considered to be the best country duet of all time.
The song is about two people in loveless marriages who fall in love. It was performed with such emotion that some wondered if Loretta and Conway were an item. Loretta put that to rest in an interview when she said, “Me and Conway were friends. We wasn’t lovers.”

Now, that’s country music! It’s rare to see a performance like that these days. Loretta sure nailed that. Even Conway seems amazed at her vocals in that video.
