As 2017 continues to unfold, all the indications are that yes, Conor McGregor will likely box Floyd Mayweather Jr. before the year is out.
Yes, as the headline relays, McGregor has come to terms with the UFC for the long rumored bout. The UFC’s lightweight champ and biggest star, recently announced the news to his site The Mac Life:
“It is an honour to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said.
“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”
According to a report from MMA Fighting, Dana White also confirmed on TNT that he has reached a deal with McGregor, and is now focusing on Mayweather’s side.
The news comes not long after White reported that he, McGregor and Mayweather had been targeting September 16th for the bout. But, that because it’s been announced Gennady Golovkin will face “Canelo” Alvarez that night, they have lost their date.
So, while McGregor – Mayweather isn’t official yet, increasingly it looks like this very well could happen. Assuming, of course, that Mayweather’s demands are reasonable…
