Don Rickles

Legendary Comedian Don “Mr. Warmth” Rickles passed away at the age of 90.

Rickles rose to stardom when he turned the tables on his hecklers and insulted everyone he met including Frank Sinatra. He turned his insult comedy into a six decade career and he didn’t let any sacred cow stay preserved. It didn’t matter who you were, Don Rickles was going to insult you.

Rickles’ publicist Paul Shefrin confirmed his death on Thursday. He died from kidney failure at his home in Los Angeles.

Rickles was still cracking jokes up until his death. Just five years ago he took aim at President Obama at the American Film Institute’s tribute to Shirley MacLaine. Rickles joked that he “shouldn’t make fun of the blacks. President Obama is a personal friend of mine. He was over to the house yesterday, but the mop broke.”

Rickles even took on President Reagan:

Rickles made appearances on everything from The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts to Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show. He even starred in a number of movies and made appearances in The Twilight Zone, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Beverly Hillbillies.

Rickles was one of a kind and a comic legend. He is survived by his wife Barbara Sklar and his daughter Mindy. His son, Larry, died at the age of 41. He is also survived by his son-in-law Ed and his grandchildren Ethan and Harrison.

Funeral services will be private. The family is asking donations be made to the Larry Rickles Endowment Fund at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
