Blues harmonic star James Cotton died yesterday of pneumonia at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
He was 81-years-old.
A Grammy Award-winning harmonica legend, Cotton played with other blues legends Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf.
Cotton also won six Living Blues Awards in his lifetime and 10 Blues Music Awards. The Fesitval International de Jazz de Montréal also awarded him its B.B. King Award.
He released over 30 albums during his career.

Via Rolling Stone: “Cotton is survived by his wife, Jacklyn Hairston Cotton, daughters Teresa Hampton of Seattle and Marshall Ann Cotton of Peoria, Illinois, and son James Patrick Cotton of Chicago, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
