Country star Alan Jackson is a proud Christian. For Mother’s Day one year he recorded an album of gospel music for his mother. She taught him the importance of Jesus and Jackson shared that message in his music.
Jackson has an amazing and distinctive voice, so it is wonderful that he uses it to sing God’s praises.
In the video below, Jackson sings a live performance of “The Old Rugged Cross.” He puts a nice spin on this Gospel classic that I’m sure made his Mama Ruth proud!
What a beautiful performance. You can tell that song really means something to him. He put his all into that performance. Just like Jesus’ love, this song has stood the test of time. Many consider it to be one of the best worship songs of all time.

Jackson’s Gospel album Precious Memories Collection entered the Christian Billboard Album chart in the number 2 spot. There was a tremendous and immediate demand to hear him sing these Christian classics.
Jackson said of the album, “I grew up singing just about every one of these songs. And I love that sound, of that organ, and that music really stuck with me and, I’m sure, affected how I hear songs now and write songs, ’cause a lot of those old songs are really pretty, simple melodies that stick with you. These songs mean a lot to me.”
