Salute To The Military

Colin Kaepernick is about to be in a sticky situation. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback is refusing to stand for the National Anthem. He believes he is somehow protesting widespread “oppression” of African Americans in the United States. And tonight, he is getting quite a bit of karma served up to him.

San Diego is the NFL’s top military town. There will be a “Salute to the Military” at tonight’s game, complete with a US flag that will take up the bulk of the field. Since the Chargers are playing the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick will be there. And while these veterans are being honored and serenaded with the National Anthem, Kaepernick plans to sit.

It will be optical hell for Kapernick.

Vietnam Veterans will be honored at halftime to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that war. Wounded Warriors, and thousands of other veterans and active duty service members will be hosted this evening. Kaepernick’s protest will likely be viewed as a slap in the face to our military. The San Diego Tribune reported on the details.

In a statement, the team said that the Marine Band San Diego and Frog X parachute team, which features retired Navy Seals, will provide entertainment. The team added the national anthem will be sung by Petty Offer 1st Class Steven Powell from the U.S. Navy, as “240 sailors, marines and soldiers present a U.S. Super Flag and service emblems from all branches of service. Color guards from the Navy, Marine Corps and Army will present the flag.”

And Kaepernick will be sitting…

This is karma in full effect. The Salute to the Military has been planned for months – and it is perfectly timed to smack Kaepernick’s claims of oppression down especially given that he is paid millions of dollars.

This will likely encourage more people to watch the game and see our military being honored, so it’s really a win. Our service members deserve our attention and gratitude. One washed up quarterback may be sitting, but many more will be paying attention to our military because of it. For that we can be grateful!
