There were lots of questions as CM Punk entered his first MMA fight. It didn’t take long for those questions to be answered. Mickey Gall had his way with Punk in their welterweight bout before making him tap to a rear-naked choke at 2:14 of the first round.

“In life, you go big, you go home; this is a hell of a challenge, but I’m not going to quit,” said Punk. “This doesn’t mean I’m going to stop. I will be back, believe it or not. I know there’s a lot of doubters, but life’s about falling down and getting up.”

Entering the fight, Punk had never competed as an amateur or professional. The 37 year old signed with UFC about two years ago after leaving WWE and pro wrestling behind.

Before UFC 203, Gall won his two amateur bouts before turning pro. He would then capture two more wins as a pro, with one under the UFC banner; giving him three of his four wins by submission.

The two met on the main card of UFC 203 at welterweight.
