Amelia Earhart broke through glass ceilings way before Hillary Clinton was even born. The female aviator provided Americans a respite from the dark days of the Great Depression.

Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932.  Charles Lindberg accomplished it just five years prior. The country was enamored with a woman who could complete such a mission.

In 1937, she went missing over the Pacific Ocean while trying to fly around the globe. Americans waited and prayed for her to be found, but she never was. Amelia was gone forever, but she was never forgotten.

Her death fueled a lot of theories since her body wasn’t recovered. Eighteen months later she was declared dead. Many people believed she died in a crash and her plane sunk in the ocean, but new evidence proves to the likelihood that she survived the crash.

Ric Gillespie, the director of the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) thinks that Amelia died as a castaway on an island in the Pacific. Gillespie has made 11 trips to Gardner Island to search for clues in Earhart’s disappearance.

A 1937 picture from the uninhabited island shows landing gear sticking out of the ground. Also, if Earhart’s plane landed in the ocean, she wouldn’t have been able to operate her radio. But, Gillespie made some discoveries regarding radio transmissions. “Earhart made a relatively safe landing at Gardner Island and sent radio distress calls for six days,” Gillespie said. “There are 47 messages heard by professional radio operators that appear to be credible.”

While the plane would have been low on fuel, it had enough to power the radio. Gillespie has been studying this for 28 years. He believes both Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan survived the crash, but Noonan was seriously injured.

As evidence, Gillespie cites an interview with Betty Clank, a ham radio operator in Florida who claimed to have heard Earhart and was put in contact with TIGHAR.
“What she heard is not just a woman calling for help, there was a man with her and he seemed to be out of his head,” Gillespie said. “And he was grabbing the mic. The whole thing reads like a 911 call.”

Gillespie presented these new facts. You can see them in the video below.

Wow! Makes you wonder why this information wasn’t known before. My grandparents spoke about their concern for Amelia Earhart for decades. Her disappearance had such an impact on that generation. It would be amazing to finally discover the truth.
