Police and prosecutors will not be charging the mother of the 3-year-old-boy who found his way into the gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo.
The young boy was violently dragged through a moat in the enclosure by Harambe, the 450-pound gorilla.
The zoo shot and killed the Gorilla in order to protect the child.
Watch as the Hamilton County prosecutor’s office explains their decision to not press charges:
A petition calling for “Justice for Harambe” raised over half a million signatures that advocated “an investigation of the child’s home environment in the interests of protecting the child and his siblings from further incidents of parental negligence that may result in serious bodily harm or even death.”
This petition failed to sway prosecutors. And the prosecutor even makes note of how he was taken aback by the moral equivalence some folks had concerning human life and animal life.
The prosecutor also emphasized on a number of occasions, “If you don’t believe a 3-year-old can scamper away so quickly, you’ve never had kids. They just do that sometimes. I just think we are lucky the zoo did what they had to do.”
This is great news for the Mother as she will be able to keep her family intact after the enormous scare she had seeing her child being thrown around by the 450-pound gorilla.
