Deshauna Barber is going to represent our country well as Miss USA. The beauty winner just broke though a major barrier on the pageant scene – she is an Army Officer with glam and guts!
The DC native is the first member of the military to be crowned Miss USA. And she’s not the only member of her family in the military. Both of her parents and all her siblings have also served our country. “I consider it to be a family tradition,” she said before the pageant. “It’s something that runs through our veins — patriotism and service for this country.”
Now, Barber is serving our country in a different realm – as Miss USA.
Barber plans to use her Miss USA platform to help raise awareness about issues veterans face after returning from combat, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. You can learn more about this big news in the video below.
This is the kind of glass ceiling I want to see broken. Those who serve out country in uniform should be representing our country on other levels as well. Their dedication is unmatched.
