Missy Robertson

Missy and Jase Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame are thrilled that their son Reed Robertson is getting married. However, when Reed got engaged, Missy told him that he was not welcome to live with them after he was married.

Harsh? Not once you see her reasoning.

“Reed, I love you with all my heart, but once you say ‘I do’ this fall, you can’t come home. And Brighton, you’re stuck with him.”

Her statement reflects her strong Christian faith. As you know, the Robertson Family isn’t ashamed of their Christianity. Family is also incredibly important to the Robertsons.

Her reason wasn’t out of spite and it had nothing to do with her feelings towards Brighton. Missy has gotten this same lecture from her dad before she got married to Jase.

And the reason is pretty profound. Here’s what Missy’s father said to her:

So, when he stopped me in the hallway of our house one day during that festive week, took me by the shoulders, faced me head on and stated, “Missy, I need to tell you something very important”, it definitely got my attention. He looked me dead in the eyes and said, “When you get married on Friday, you can’t come home.”
What? Where in the world did this come from? Maybe I didn’t hear him correctly. So, I asked him to clarify.
Again, he said, “You are not welcome to come back to this house to live after Friday night.”
As Robertson reeled from the news, her dad explained the reasoning behind his edict:
“When you have problems with your husband, and you will, you’ll need to work them out. Your mom and I will be here to help you however we can, but you’ll have to go home to your husband.”

The Robertsons value the sanctity of marriage and their faith, so it’s important that their children fight through tough times for their marriages. Jessica Robertson knows this first hand as her first marriage at age 18 failed, so she works extra hard to make her marriage to Jep work well. You can see her discuss this in the video below.

What do you think about this idea to no longer welcome your children back home after they marry? Do you agree? Please share your opinion.
