Jim Clark had been trying to grow a garden in his yard for 3o years. The 62 year old has a green thumb, so he wasn’t sure why his attempts kept failing.
Clark had enough of trying and decided to find out what was causing the problem. He started digging and he found something completely unexpected.
The man discovered a WWII bunker in the backyard of his home in England. He has lived there for 33 years and had no prior knowledge of it.
“I’ve been trying everything to get the grass to grow in that area for three decades — putting down turf, new seed, fertilizer, leaving the hose pipe running for three hours to soak the grass — but it’s always been brown and dry,” he told Yahoo News. “I’m just glad to get to the bottom of it after all this time. My wife came out and I’d unearthed this air raid shelter. She couldn’t believe it, she thinks I’m crazy.”
He learned the bunker had been built by the previous owner. This bunker was built in a manner that it could survive air raids. It has two sections and a cast iron roof covers both of them.
What an amazing thing to discover after living there for so long!
It was common for European leaders to have these bunkers, but it’s fascinating to see one in an average backyard.
Mussolini’s bunker is now open to the public. You can take a tour of it in the video below.
