Five minutes after Daallo Airlines Flight D3159 took off from Mogadishu airport in Somalia, passengers were met with terror.

Survivor Hassan Mohamed Nur told the Daily Mail that an explosion of a suspected bomb tore a hole in the jet’s fuselage. Then Nur saw an elderly man catch fire before being sucked out of the plane.

“I saw the passenger, a man in his early 60s, get sucked out of the plane,’ he told MailOnline. ‘There was a huge bang. A big hole appeared in the side of the jet and the man disappeared through it.
‘One minute he was sat in his seat, the next it he was gone. He’d been sucked out of the plane.
‘People were screaming. We all thought we were going to die.”

A charred body of a man was found 18 miles from Mogadishu. It is suspected that it was the man Nur witnessed fall to his death from the plane.

The pilot was able to land the plane, saving the other passengers. Two are reportedly injured. Serbian pilot Vlatko Vodopivec recounted the ordeal and he believes it was a bomb.

“When we heard a loud bang, the co-pilot went back to the cabin to inspect the damage and I took over the commands as the procedure demands.
Smoke came into the cockpit, but it was mostly concentrated in the back of the aircraft. I think it was a bomb. Luckily, the flight controls were not damaged so I could return and land at the airport.
Something like this has never happened in my flight career. We lost pressure in the cabin. Thank god it ended well.
It was my first bomb; I hope it will be the last. It would have been much worse if we were higher.”
