Back in 2020, the former Full House star Lori Loughlin served two months in prison for her college admissions scandal. Now, she has scored her first recurring role since then.
In an ironic twist, Loughlin will be playing a police officer!
Loughlin’s New Show
Loughlin, 60, will be playing the role of Lieutenant Bishop in On Call. The series is produced by the Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, and it will begin airing on Prime Video in January. Loughlin will star alongside Eriq La Salle, Troian Bellisario, and Brandon Larracuente.
The show will follow Bellisario’s veteran police officer as she trains Larracuente’s rookie cop on patrol in Long Beach, California. Loughlin’s officer is a supporting character.
“The idea for this show is over four years old and it originated with thinking about how to make something that’s old new again,” co-creator and executive producer Elliot Wolf told Entertainment Weekly. “Looking at the visual language of this show and the use of found footage, we really wanted to take a format, in the half-hour procedural, that you don’t really see today and make it completely new again. That was the basic idea.”
“We never set out to reinvent the wheel. I don’t think we ever felt we could reinvent the wheel,” added co-creator and executive producer Tim Walsh. “There’s so many procedurals and cop shows out there, so we just said, ‘Let’s just make this our version.’ The North Star for us was, ‘Let’s make it incredibly entertaining’ and we just went from there.”

Loughlin ‘Wanted To Embody’ Character Of Police Officer
Wolf had nothing but praise for Loughlin.
“As soon as she signed onto the role, she was totally game,” he said of her. “She wanted to do the research, she wanted to embody the character. She was honestly a joy to work with.”
Many will see the irony in Loughlin playing a member of law enforcement, however. She served two months in prison and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli served five months after they allegedly paid $500,000 in bribe money to have their two daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team, even though neither girl had ever rowed before.
Loughlin also had to complete 150 hours of community service and pay a $150,000 fine. Meanwhile, Giannulli got hit with 250 hours of community service and a $250,000 fine.
On Call Is Not A ‘Typical Procedural’
Despite this, those behind On Call are excited to have Loughlin onboard playing a cop.
“This definitely is not a typical procedural,” Walsh said. “We don’t start with a crime and solve it by the end of the episode. I’d say we’re much more interested in the human interactions between our characters and the people they encounter every day. Some of it’s fun, some of it’s very scary, some of it’s very heartwarming, but that’s what we were most interested in is these human stories.”
While some will have an issue with Loughlin portraying a police officer, others will argue that she’s served her time and deserves to move on with her life. It will certainly be interesting to see On Call when it comes out in January!
