American Bandstand

American Bandstand was an important show for teenagers from the 1950s through the 1980s. “America’s Oldest Teenager” Dick Clark brought popular song and dance of the day into homes throughout the US.

The Spotlight Dance was a big part of the show. It featured 2 or more couples. As you can see in the video below, teens would showcase their dance moves. And boy are they different than today.

Take a moment back in time to watch these teens dance to “Romeo and Juliet” in 1964.

That was cutting edge dancing at the time. I love their outfits. Everyone dressed so respectfully then!
