It’s been two weeks since the country music legend Naomi Judd tragically took her own life at the age of 76, but the world is still reeling from her passing. Now, Naomi’s daughter Ashley Judd is revealing how her mother killed herself, and some details about her final hours.

Naomi’s Cause Of Death Is Revealed

While appearing on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday morning, Ashley revealed that Naomi died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“She used a weapon… my mother used a firearm,” Ashley said. “So that’s the piece of information that we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position that if we don’t say it someone else is going to.”

Fox News reported that Ashley went on to say that the family decided that it was important to share Naomi’s cause of death with the world as a way to raise awareness about mental illness struggles.

‘Our Mother Couldn’t Hang On’

Ashley then referenced how Naomi had been scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame just one day after her suicide.

“Our mother couldn’t hang on until she was inducted into the Hall of Fame by her peers,” she said. “That is the level of catastrophe of what was going on inside of her, because the barrier between the regard in which they held her couldn’t penetrate into her heart, and the lie the disease told her was so convincing.”

Naomi’s Final Hours

In this same interview, Ashley gave some details about her mom’s final hours.

“It was a mixed day,” Ashley explained. “I visit with my mom and pop every day when I’m home in Tennessee, so I was at the house visiting as I am every day.”

“Mom said to me, ‘Will you stay with me?’ and I said, ‘Of course I will.’… I went upstairs to let her know that her good friend was there and I discovered her,” she added. “I have both grief and trauma from discovering her.”
