American manufacturing was longtime considered the heartbeat of this country. Someone who knows a lot about America’s blue collar backbone is television personality and author Mike Rowe. Today, Mike Rowe spoke out to put a different spin on the coronavirus outbreak. The “Dirty Jobs” host said this crisis “is a chance, unlike anything I’ve ever seen, for corporate America to step up and do what the government simply can’t do.” Here’s really where we see what America is made of.
Companies Step Up To Offset Ventilator Shortage
Mike Rowe made these comments on Monday during an interview with “Fox & Friends”. The interview followed General Motors‘ announcement that they are teaming up with Ventec Life Systems and StopTheSpread.org to increase production of respiratory care products. This ramp in production is critical as hospitals across the U.S. face what could be a massive ventilator shortage.
SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk also said that his companies are working to help out with the ventilator situation as well.
Rowe said today that coronavirus is going to show the world “what capitalism is really all about.”
“We have these big conversations about the direction the country is headed and what direction the country ought to be headed,” he said.
Mike Rowe Discusses Corporate America’s Response
Rowe went on to describe the current situation as a “chance for corporate America to step up and do what the government simply can’t do.”
“Obviously government has a primary role in this, but I don’t think they can do it alone and I’m actually really heartened,” he said. Rowe was referring to companies, including 3M, which produces respirator masks for consumers. As well as GM that is stepping up and out of their lane to help out with this crisis.
Street Insider reported that 3M has doubled its production of N95 respirator masks since the start of the outbreak to nearly 100 million a month. That is amazing!
Rowe then talked about smaller companies “who have completely retooled and retrofitted.”
“I’m looking at these distilleries who are now making hand sanitizer,” he said. “It’s big and it’s small, it’s micro, it’s macro, it’s everybody doing what they can, in a way that I think could ultimately make about the most compelling case for capitalism that we’ve seen in our lifetime.”

Mike Rowe Is Spot On
As usual, Mike Rowe is spot on with his commentary on this situation. In a time filled with so much negativity, his positive spin on this situation is very much needed.
Instead of buying into the doom and gloom being spread by the media, let’s look at this as an opportunity for major companies to step up and remind the world what American manufacturing muscle and capitalism is all about.
God bless America!
