“The Dick Van Dyke Show” aired from 1961 to 1966. While the show has been off the air for over 50 years, it’s still funny to watch it today. The classic clips have stood the test of time.
“All About Eavesdropping” was the 2nd season’s final episode. It’s considered to be one of the best ones of the entire series. Little Richie and his friend installed an intercom between the Helpers home next door and the Petries. Laura and Rob heard the Helpers complain about them.
The Petries hear Jerry and Millie Helper call them snobs “with a compulsive drive to be the best.” This obviously bothers Laura and Rob greatly as they were about to go to a dinner party at the Helpers. Ultimately, they decided to still go because they didn’t want to bail on Sally and Buddy.
This episode is loaded with passive aggressive behavior caused by eavesdropping. It all culminates when everyone gathers together to play a game.
A hilarious clip showing Rob and Laura play charades is one of the highlights of this show. You can tell by their body language that they aren’t happy to be there. But, they end up putting everyone to shame while playing charades. Everyone is stunned that Rob is somehow able to guess what Laura is acting out.
You’ll surely laugh when you watch the video below!
They are magnificent at charades! The Petries have a language all their own. Nobody else could have guessed what they were saying! Rob and Laura’s expressions are perfect when they win. They still obviously don’t want to be over at the Helpers.
“The Dick Van Dyke Show” pushed a lot of boundaries. It was unlike any other television show at the time. Van Dyke’s physical comedy added to the humorous situations in each episode. Click here to see him act as Laura’s drunk uncle!
