The Trump administration is seeing plenty of shakeups this week.
The latest is Secret Service director, Joseph Clancy, is retiring.
CNN obtained a letter Clancy wrote to employees of the protective agency.
“The success of the Secret Service is achieved with great sacrifice by all of you and your families. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt thanks for your dedication to our mission. You have inspired me. My hope was that I could return your gifts of inspiration with some measure of good for the Secret Service,” he wrote.
Clancy will officially retire on March 4th. He became director of the Secret Service in 2014 as appointee of then-President Obama.
Clancy has served 29 years in the Secret Service. He first joined the Service in 1984 and became the leader of Obama’s detail in 2009 before retiring in 2011 to become the security director for Comcast in Philadelphia. After spending the past three years in DC, he will finally be able to move back in with his wife in the Philadelphia suburbs.
The Secret Service performs an essential role – that is, protecting the president. Here’s to hoping President Trump fills the role quickly with someone fit for the job.
