Seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry was assaulted by a rival on an opposing team during a kids basketball tournament.
Horry has played on winning championship rosters such as the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets, and the San Antonio Spurs. He’s also known for his cool and fun demeanor. He’s a laid back cat with a smile on his face which invites many kids and fans alike to approach him for autographs and photos.
During a tournament game, a man affiliated with the opposing team thought he would try to rattle Horry, heckling him and trying to get a response. This man approached Horry and pushed his chest with two hands and as you will see in the video, it was on after that.
From TMZ:
Witnesses tell us a man affiliated with the opposing team was heckling Horry throughout the game when he approached R.H. and pushed him. Horry responded with his fists … throwing several punches at the man. It’s unclear if any of the punches landed. “The guy was trash talking the whole game. He shoved me. Where I’m from, you protect yourself.” Horry a 7x NBA champion — says he ultimately decided to walk away rather than continue to fight, knowing he was “the only one who was gonna lose in this situation.”
Just because “Big-Shot Rob” is a great NBA role model, doesn’t mean he is going to tolerate someone putting their hands on him. I have known Horry for a while and he’s one of the most down-to-earth people you can meet so watching him defend himself was a surprise to me.
I am glad he wasn’t hurt and hopefully, the kids in the area do not pick up any habits from the man who started the fight. If charges can be brought against him, I hope they go for it.
