In April, it was announced that Greyhound 2 would begin shooting in January 2026, with Tom Hanks and co-star Stephen Graham reprising their roles in the film. However, Tom Hanks has confessed that he was “heartbroken” over the Greyhound movie moving to streaming platforms instead of theaters as planned.

The six-time Oscar nominee and two-time winner has quite a history of excellent movies and roles. And the World War II film, following an inexperienced Navy Commander tasked with leading an Allied convoy against a German submarine wolf pack, is right there in his greatest roles.

Unfortunately, though, while the Greyhound movie was supposed to release to theaters on June 12th, 2020, the film was sold to AppleTV+ in a $70 million deal, making it switch to streaming platforms instead. And of course, Hanks wasn’t that happy, saying it was “an absolute heartbreak,” and said, “I don’t mean to make angry my Apple overlords, but there is a difference in picture and sound quality.”

Which might make fans question why he’s going with the sequel, although Hanks would never turn down a stunning role just because of disappointment. And thankfully, though it went to Apple instead of theaters, it’s a hit.

Tom Hanks described his outlook on streaming platforms versus theaters, saying, “The great advantage is that the entire world can see the movie at the same time. The heartbreak is that 800 people don’t get to go into a theater as strangers, watch Greyhound, and come out 88 minutes later with something in common.”

Greyhound 2 will follow Captain Krause and his vessel into both the D-Day invasion on the beaches of Normandy and the conflict in the Pacific Ocean during the latter stages of World War II. There’s no word yet on the release date.
