There is a lot of debate over fried chicken. There are plenty of options, but in a quest for the best fast food fried chicken, Business Insider did a head to head comparison to see which of the top selling brands is the best.
They compared Church’s, Popeye’s, KFC, and Chick-fil-A. Their taste test results may cause a battle of words, however, as many have their own favorites and might not agree.
First up was Church’s. The original 3 piece meal was purchased for $5.43.
While the chicken itself was juicy and the breading had the “perfect crunch,” they felt the batter was a bit flavorless.
Next up was Chick-Fil-A where a three-count Chick-n-Strips was ordered for $5.11.
Business Insider claims the Chick-Fil-A strips disappointed them because they were more like nuggets than the Church’s chicken. But, I’d like to point out that they are different products that I would never compare in a head-to-head matchup.
They did like the taste of the chicken strips. The breading was rather flavorful and the chicken was tender. Ultimately, they scored the Chick-Fil-A poorly because the strips were unlike the actual pieces of chicken at Church’s.
Next, they ordered a three-piece meal at Popeye’s for $5.65
Popeye’s has a fan following. The Louisiana chicken is known for its bold flavors and marinades. It rated well because the chicken was juicy and the breading was flavorful and had the perfect crunch.
KFC rounded out the taste test with a two-piece meal which cost $5.99.
KFC has been a fried chicken staple for a very long time. It’s hard to think of fried chicken without thinking of Colonel Sanders, but ultimately, these taste testers weren’t impressed.
They felt the KFC chicken was dry and the breading was “thin and tasteless.” They also said the breading lacked the proper crunch.
Because of this, KFC came in last in this taste test. Chick-Fil-A came in third, Church’s was second, and Popeye’s was the clear winner as you can see in the ranking photo below.
This wasn’t an apples to apples taste test. Chick-Fil-A was at a disadvantage because they don’t offer the same meals as the other three. If they had done a taste test of chicken sandwiches, it would be hard to beat the polite chicken franchise. But, when it comes to fried chicken, are there really any losers?
