While responding to questions from fans, Gomez finally responded to why she’s had so many changes lately, especially to her voice.
“Yeah, I’ve gotten this question a few times, the voice thing,” Gomez admits. “So sometimes when I’m on… never mind,” she started, but then cut herself off. “There’s no excuse, I don’t really care.”
The pop star and actress, 33, explained that the voice change is caused by occasional throat swelling. “I think my point is, is that sometimes things happen,” she said. “I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all. That’s good.”
Gomez has been very open about her ongoing health struggles, especially her battle with Lupus. This condition causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissue and organs, which frequently causes swelling and irritation. It also causes inflammation that can affect joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, and more, according to Mayo Clinic.
Fans have flooded her social media page to praise her for being so honest and upfront. Gomez has even thanked her fans on live for being so transparent with her. “I’m glad y’all are being real with me on the Live. I appreciate it though, for real.”
Gomez has been candid about her struggle, with one of her side effects being weight fluctuation, which is triggered by her Lupus treatment. “When I’m taking [the medication], I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally,” she shared in a 2023 Instagram Live video. “And then when I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight.”
While fans have questioned Selena Gomez, especially with her recent acting in Only Murders in the Building and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, Gomez has been upfront with her condition and how it can affect her acting.
In an appearance on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Poehler’s podcast, Gomez admitted that she has arthritis in her fingers because of her condition. “I remember trying to open a water bottle, and it hurt so bad before I was on the right medication.”
While Gomez’s Lupus is in remission, it still has lasting effects on her body. But even still, she has created an amazing name for herself to this day. Stay up to date with your favorite celebrities by checking back here.
