Country fans are in shock after country music duo Maddie & Tae announced they’re splitting after 15 years together.
The platinum-selling duo shared the big news with PEOPLE while revealing their individual plans. Tae Dye Kerr is placing her career on hold for the foreseeable future to focus on her family, which includes her Grammy-winning songwriter-producer husband, Josh Kerr, and their daughter and son.
Maddie Marlow Font is continuing her singing career, however, going at it solo, all while navigating her life as a wife to sa tay-at-home husband, Jonah Font, for their son.
“We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day,” Font said in the interview. “We might go do some tour dates one day.”
“Absolutely,” Kerr agreed.
“But just in this season, it doesn’t feel aligned for us to do it together,” Font adds.
Both women struggle with what to call it because, as they say, while they may be splitting right now, they don’t mean that it will never happen again. They’ve talked about their connection with one another, and they say it’s deep and permanent.
“Even though we’re not gonna go on this journey as Maddie & Tae together, we’re still walking and doing life together outside of it,” Font clarifies. “And I think I’m really excited to just be best friends and nurture our friendship and no thave to worry as much about the work and still get to raise our babies together. None of that changes.”
Even though fans are happy to know that the two of them are still holding on to a strong friendship, in hopes of one day coming back together, it is still a shocking decision. There is still a possibility that this is an actual ending after 15 years of producing music together.
“It’s been such a hard, hard — honestly, heartbreaking — decision,” Kerr confessed in the interview. “This was the only dream I’ve ever had since I exited the womb. I had a very specific vision of creating music and singing. When we met at 15, that’s what we set out to do, and we’re both just so grateful that we’ve had the journey that we’ve had. This career has been everything we’ve ever wanted.”
The duo started in the country music scene in 2015 with their debut album “Start Here”. They’re currently on tour, with their last show being June 19, 2026.
Kerr talked about their decision and the phone call that finalized the choice. “Maddie was like, ‘Tell me where your heart is,’ and I was like, ‘My heart is at home,'” Kerr confessed. “And she said, ‘OK. Then that’s what we need to do.'”
While this is shocking news for fans, it’s exciting to see that Maddie & Tae are pursuing what they want. Hopefully, one day they’ll come back together for another album.
