It’s been nearly one year since the legendary former Three’s Company star Suzanne Somers passed away after battling breast cancer for 23 years.

Now, Somers’ beloved widower Alan Hamel, who was married to her for 46 years, is speaking out to say that she still communicates with him after her death.

Hamel’s ‘Unusual’ Experiences

Somers died at her home in Palm Springs, California on October 15, 2023 at age 76. Hamel, 88, told Fox News that since Somers’ death, he’s had some very “unusual” experiences.

“One day I’m in the kitchen with my family, and all of a sudden, Suzanne’s favorite song comes on the audio system; the audio system wasn’t even turned on,” Hamel said. “It’s a Latin song, and it’s written and performed by someone no one’s ever heard of. It’s a song we used to dance to in the kitchen. It just came on all by itself. And then, when it was over, that was it. The audio system stayed off.”

“Later that day, the fireplace started by itself,” he continued. “It stayed on for an hour and then it turned off. Then one day, a hummingbird flew into our house. It goes to our little breakfast nook where there’s a photograph of Suzanne and me where we’re looking at each other. The hummingbird hovers in between our two faces. Then it flies up and sits on top of the photo.”

Things only got stranger from there!

“A few weeks later, I opened all the doors and windows and I saw the same hummingbird – they all have very distinctive colorings… I walked over and extended my hands,” he recalled. “The hummingbird jumps into my hands, and she tucks in her little feet. All I felt was her belly. She felt safe.”

Hamel Feels Somers’ Presence

Losing Somers has been particularly difficult for Hamel, as it has left him living alone for the first time since he was 18. There’s one time of day in particular when he often feels her presence, however.

“When I go to bed at night, during that time when you’re not asleep yet, that’s when I really feel Suzanne’s presence to the point where it’s palpable,” he said. “I remember one night I was so positive she was in bed with me. I reached over just to check, and of course, she wasn’t there.”

These unusual experiences have led Hamel to conclude that despite what some say, “there is an afterlife.”

“We discard the body, but we still have a soul,” he explained. “The soul is energy. And I have to believe that it finds a dimension or a plane that we don’t understand… I absolutely believe there is an afterlife. I do believe that when my time comes to expire, Suzanne will be waiting for me.”

‘When We Knew The End Was Near…’

Prior to Somers’ death, she and her husband had talks about what comes next.

“When we knew the end was near, we had those conversations that you have to have,” Hamel recounted. “And we did talk about the afterlife… We were both very spiritual and we both believed there was a higher power.”

“When you look at the complex insides of a human being, all those glands and arteries, how the human body operates – that didn’t come about by accident,” he added. “There was an element of design. And I believe there’s another dimension we don’t understand yet. Maybe some people might think I’m wacky, but I choose to believe.”

What a beautiful sentiment!

Though Somers has passed away, Hamel is still keeping her legacy alive. He has kept her social media accounts active so that he can continue to her business. This was something that Somers told him to do prior to her death.

“When Suzanne and I were having our final conversation, she said to me, ‘I want you to promise to keep developing new organic products for my ladies,’” he stated. “She always referred to [her fans] as ‘my ladies.’”

“We started our business the day she was fired from Three’s Company,'” he continued. “Back then, nobody knew what branding was. But Suzanne and I did it together. We looked for products that we would use ourselves and would help others. And the business we created together is just as vibrant today.”

Secret Behind Somers’ Long-Lasting Marriage

Somers and Hamel met back in 1969, and they married in 1977. As for the secret behind their decades-long marriage, Hamel thinks it’s something very simple.

“We were never apart for not even one hour,” he explained. “It wasn’t by design. We didn’t say, ‘Let’s never leave each other.’ It just evolves by itself. She said to me one day, ‘When you’re in the next room, I miss you.’ I said, ‘I feel the same way.’ One of our sons said, ‘You two don’t realize it, but you have a codependent relationship that is actually working.’”

Somers was a truly iconic star who was never afraid to think for herself. The love Somers shared with Hamel was one for the ages. That’s why it comes as no surprise that even death could not keep them apart!
