The singer Michael Bolton’s daughters are speaking out this week to give fans an update on his battle with brain cancer.
Bolton’s Cancer Battle Update
Bolton, 72, revealed back in December of 2023 that he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma. He announced this after undergoing emergency surgery in which doctors removed his brain tumor in its entirety.
In January of 2024, Bolton underwent another brain surgery after an infection. He then finished radiation and chemotherapy treatment in October of that year.
Bolton now undergoes MRIs every two months. This is to make sure the cancer hasn’t returned, as glioblastoma has an extremely high recurrence rate.
Bolton’s three daughters Isa, Holly and Taryn have become his primary caregivers. In a new interview with AARP, they updated fans on how their father is doing.
“We’re proud and happy to update anyone who has been interested in following [our Dad’s] journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health,” said Isa.
“He has a lot of challenges, and we do have great days and some tough days, but in general, he’s very strong,” she continued. “His mobility and cognition have been terrific. So, we’re in a really good place right now.”
Isa then admitted that the relationship dynamic has changed between herself, her sisters, and her father in the wake of them becoming his caregivers.
“The relationship dynamic does shift so profoundly,” she explained. “You have an opportunity to work through some things that were challenging and to recognize that you don’t have to be put into a position that maybe you had pigeonholed yourself into in the relationship. You can redefine the relationship in a new way.”
Bolton Feels ‘Deeply Grateful’
While Bolton himself wasn’t interviewed, he sent an email to the outlet saying that he is “feeling deeply grateful.” He added that he’s enjoying spending time with his family, which includes his daughters and six grandchildren.
“This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined, but it’s also made me more aware of the moments that fill life with meaning: having meals with my family, hearing my grandkids laugh, stepping outside on a beautiful day and just taking it in,” Bolton wrote.
Taryn has moved in with Bolton in his home in Westport, Connecticut. Isa spends three days a week there, and Holly travels there monthly from her home in California. Bolton went on to say that having his daughters by his side during his cancer battle and recovery “means more than I could ever put into words.”
“My daughters have been constant in a way that grounds me,” he said. “On the harder days, they help me stay centered; on the lighter ones, they bring out the laughter that makes everything feel possible again. They remind me of who I am and what’s worth fighting for.”
Bolton Thanks Fans For Their Support
Bolton ended his email by thanking his fans for their support as well.
“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote to his supporters.
“Your messages, prayers, kindness … they’ve reached me in moments when I needed them most,” Bolton concluded. “It’s amazing how a few words from someone you’ve never met can lift your spirit and steady your steps. It reminds me that we’re all connected, and none of us walk through life’s challenges alone.”
Bolton is a true legend, and there will never be another one like him. Please join us in saying a prayer for him as he continues his cancer battle and recovery.
God bless you, Michael Bolton!
