Over the past few years, there has been an incredibly high turnover rate among the staffers of Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry. Tons of their staffers have quit, while others have been fired. Now, Meghan and Harry are speaking out to reveal why they have fired so many of their staffers.
It’s just been reported that three members, which is 60% of the Archewell Philanthropies staff, have been let go. A spokesperson for Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, has since spoken out to claim that these “redundancies” in staff were “inevitable” for Archewell.
Meghan And Harry’s ‘Inevitable’ Firings
“Currently, the same full team remains in place,” the spokesperson told Page Six. “This move does mean that some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly with junior admin roles.”
“We will not be discussing these personnel details further. Other than to say that we are honoured to have worked with incredibly talented and caring people who dedicate themselves to helping others,” the spokesperson continued.
It was previously reported that Meghan and Harry were “forced to downsize the staff.” They allegedly had to do this because it was “costing them so much.”
Insiders are also claiming that Meghan and Harry have been talking about the future of Archewell. Indeed, it seems that the charity has been greatly struggling with funding.
“The big question was, would Archewell close, or would another charity take it over?” a source alleged. “Harry and Meghan were looking to get a fiscal sponsor. Someone to take on the outgoing costs and to keep things cheap.”
“Really, it’s all smoke and mirrors,” the insider added.
Archewell Struggles
This comes after Daily Mail found that the Archewell Foundation’s contributions tanked in 2024. The charity reportedly had $5.1 million worth of expenses while only receiving a total of $2.1 million in donations. The year before that, Archewell brought in $5.73 million in revenue and spent $3.3 million in expenses.
In 2024, Archewell additionally gave out $1.25 million in grants.
“If they’re shooting out grants then that’s a net loss and they’re not bringing in that much money,” another source explained.
Last week, Meghan and Harry announced that the Archewell Foundation will now be called Archewell Philanthropies. They launched the charity back in 2020, right after they stepped down as senior royals. They then moved across the world to Southern California, where Meghan was born and raised.
“Five years ago, The Archewell Foundation was born from a simple but profound belief: to show up and do good,” read an impact report that Meghan and Harry put out last Friday.
“Today, as we mark our fifth anniversary, that mission remains as vital and urgent as ever. Now carried forward through Archewell Philanthropies, a growing platform designed to deepen and expand how we serve communities around the world,” the statement continued.
“What began as a commitment to compassion has evolved into a powerful force for meaningful change. Particularly in championing global mental wellness across our communities,” their statement concluded.
In the five years since Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royals, many have argued that they have accomplished little aside from bashing the royal family seemingly every chance they’ve gotten. In the end, we can certainly see why their charity is struggling to the point where they’re being forced to downsize it.
Good riddance, Meghan and Harry!
