Yesterday, we reported that the Hollywood star Martin Short’s daughter Katherine died by suicide on Monday evening. She was 42 years-old.
Now, insiders are claiming that Short’s fellow Hollywood friends are rallying around him. They’re worried about him, as he’s “inconsolable” following his daughter’s sudden suicide.
Short ‘Inconsolable’ After Daughter’s Death
Katherine, who was the oldest of Short’s three children, was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound in her Hollywood Hills home at 6:41pm on Monday.
On Tuesday evening, Short’s famous friends that include Steven Spielberg, Kurt Russell and Eugene Levy were seen arriving at the home of the Only Murders In The Building star’s son Henry to support the family as they grieve this shocking loss.
“Short is inconsolable,” a source close to the family later told Daily Mail. “This is as much of a horror to Martin and his sons, her brothers, as humanly possible.”
Short ‘Is Gutted’
Short is also father to sons Oliver, 39, and Henry, 36. He adopted all three of his children along with his late wife Nancy Dolman Short. She tragically died in 2010 at the age of 58 after a battle with ovarian cancer. Short has been dating the three-time Oscar-winning star Meryl Streep for over a year.
“For someone who brings so much joy to so many, who is always trying to lift others up and make them laugh, this loss has completely shattered him,” the insider continued. “He is gutted, and as you would expect, his closest friends are surrounding him with love and support.”
The insider went on to say that Streep and Steve Martin, who both star with Short in Only Murders In The Building, are comforting him during this extremely tragic time.
“Both Steve and Meryl are going to make sure to be there for him throughout this heartbreaking time,” the source said.
the 2010 loss of Short’s beloved wife Nancy, who he was married to for 30 years, has certainly only made Katherine’s passing more difficult to handle.
“Bringing his children into his world through adoption with his wife, Nancy, who passed away, was the greatest thing he has ever done. And to lose Katherine is just as bad and sad as it was to lose Nancy,” the source lamented. “It is just a terrible time for Martin right now, but that is to be expected.”
Katherine’s Neighbors Honor Her
Meanwhile, Katherine’s neighbors have been leaving letters and flowers outside of her home.
“Last night a light went out here on Earth, but one turned on in the sky,” one letter read. “Today that light has a name: Katherine Short.”
“To whom it may concern, Katherine was an incredible neighbor who comforted my family and I in our grief,” another letter read. “If there is a public service, we would love to attend.”
Katherine was a licensed clinical social worker, therapist and charity volunteer. A friend of hers said that though Katherine struggled with her mental health for many years, she still “loved to laugh. “
“She was such a wonderful, giving, loving human being. I’m picturing her face right now, laughing,” said Rande Levine, founder of Karma Rescue. This is a dog charity whose board Katherine served on.
“It’s just so devastating to find out she took her own life,” Levine continued. “I knew she was battling with that stuff. But she put her soul into helping others that were experiencing the same things she was.”
