The country music star Jelly Roll is speaking out this week to defend his wife Bunnie XO from allegations that she is a “gold digger.” Indeed, Jelly Roll is pointing out to fans that he was “homeless” when he met Bunnie years ago.
Jelly Roll Defends Bunnie XO
“I love it when they call her a gold digger,” Jelly Roll, 41, told Taste of Country. “It’s my favorite thing.”
“She hates it. It just flames her up,” he continued. “But it just tickles me absolutely pink because when I met her, I was homeless living out of a 1996 conversion van, so if anyone was digging for gold it was I, Popeye.”
“I was couch surfing and made it to the bedroom, ya know?” Jelly Roll added.
Jelly Roll and Bunnie, 46, met back in 2015 at a Las Vegas bar called the Country Saloon. Bunnie was one of only around twenty people in the audience, and she went backstage to meet Jelly Roll after he performed. Jelly Roll was still relatively unknown at the time.
“When I met him, I tell everybody it’s the most [expletive] cliché [expletive], but literally my soul was like, ‘There you are,'” Bunnie recalled in 2023. “And he’s not my type. I’m not his type. He loves Taylor Swift. That’s his type.”
Bunnie was in a toxic relationship with someone else at the time, so they stayed friends at first. When her ex went to prison, Bunnie told a friend to give Jelly Roll her number, and they began to text and call one another often.
Jelly Roll And Bunnie XO Get Romantic
Their relationship turned romantic in July of 2016, when Jelly Roll returned to Las Vegas to film some videos. While he was there, he and Bunnie slept together for the first time.
“We’re like [expletive]-faced drunk,” she later remembered. “I’m trying to get it up, get it in, get it on and get it out, and this guy was like, ‘What’s your five-year plan?'”
After they discussed their mutual goals, Jelly Roll reportedly told Bunnie, “OK, cool. Let’s do it.”
“We got married a month later,” Bunnie added on Bussin’ With The Boys. She revealed that they married at Las Vegas’ Stained Glass Wedding Chapel in of August 2016.
“And [expletive] we did the five-year plan. Literally finished it all the way through to the fifth year,” she gushed. “The last thing was buying our own house.”
Jelly Roll and Bunnie have stuck together ever since, weathering various challenges together. Earlier this year, they suffered a terrifying setback when Jelly Roll was rushed to the hospital after breaking his collarbone in an ATV accident. They didn’t reveal this accident to fans until earlier this month.
“This happened in January, worst phone call to ever get,” Bunnie wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Jelly Roll in a hospital bed in a neck brace. “But we got thru it thank goodness & he’s healed completely.”
Though some may think that Bunnie is a “gold digger,” it seems that Jelly Roll has full confidence in her intentions. In the end, this seems like one strong marriage that won’t be broken up anytime soon.
