The Oscar-winning Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow, who has an estimated net worth of $200 million, spoke out this week to slam “super rich white dudes.”

Unfortunately for her, however, it didn’t take long for this to backfire on her. Indeed, social media users were quick to point out just how hypocritical this is coming from Paltrow, as she is a “super rich white” woman herself.

Paltrow Sounds Off

On the latest episode of “The Goop Podcast,” Paltrow sat down with tech journalist Kara Swisher. Their conversation eventually shifted to the tech giants in Silicon Valley. They specifically discussed how they have shaped the world we currently live in. Paltrow, 53, questioned how society reached a place where wealth is the only important thing.

“How did we get here as a culture?” Paltrow asked. “Obviously, there’s so much revenue and profit driving this whole thing. That’s at the heart of it.”

“But how do you think we got to this place in culture where nothing matters and now all that matters is kind of these super rich White dudes who are breaking rules, setting rules, seemingly not caring so much about the downstream impact on everything, from health to culture,” she continued.

Swisher, who is estimated to be worth millions herself, responded by saying that she once interviewed the CEO of Meta. Afterwards, she left with the belief that his mentality is “I am not responsible for everything downstream.” She added that society has “an idolatry of innovators and of wealth” with the belief that “if you’re wealthy, you must be smarter.”

Paltrow Gets Torched

Unfortunately for Paltrow, it didn’t take long for this to blow up in her face. Indeed, social media users immediately pointed out how “rich” this is coming from a wealthy woman like her (no pun intended).

“Super rich white dudes? Coming from Paltrow that is kinda funny,” one user commented on the Instagram post promoting the podcast.

“This is quite ironic when both of these people are surrounded with wealth. Gwen, your brand is crazy expensive. What?” another fan commented. A third wrote, “Gwyneth is worth 200 million so not necessarily considered ‘the rest of us.”

Yet another user commented, “Ummmmmm, wut Gwen? Pot, meet kettle.”

Paltrow’s History

Paltrow was born into a wealthy Hollywood family. She is the daughter of the actress Blythe Danner, 83, and the late producer and director Bruce Paltrow. On top of that, Paltrow is the goddaughter of the legendary director Steven Spielberg.

Paltrow has received backlash many times over the years for being out of touch with the average American. She’s also been slammed for promoting expensive wellness products and an unhealthy lifestyle.

In a December of 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter,” Paltrow admitted that she is aware of how many perceive her. She additionally admitted that she comes from a “privileged” upbringing, adding that this has only fed into these criticisms more.

“It must be a quality that I give off. I come from a very WASPy mother with Mayflower-ish roots, daughter of the American Revolution, all that kind of stuff,” Paltrow said sat the time. “So, I think maybe epigenetically, there is some of that there. And I was a very privileged kid.”

“I grew up on the Upper East Side, and I went to a great school and all the things,” the Shakespeare in Love star continued. “So, some of the stuff that he sees, which is also the stuff I’ve been criticized for my whole life, is real.”

Paltrow’s Alleged ‘Trauma’

Paltrow went on to admit that she finds it to be “traumatic to be at the whim of these projections.” Indeed, she believes that they are “misaligned” with who she actually is.

“My therapist talks about the evil shadow, which is the part of you where rage lives — the part of you that will burn the [expletive] house down — and we do damage to ourselves by not embracing our shadows,” she explained. “When you close your eyes and get into evil shadow energy, there’s a freedom there, and I’m trying to experiment with that because when I go into evil shadow energy, I don’t care what anyone’s misperception is.”

Paltrow’s latest comments will certainly do nothing to help her reputation in the eyes of her naysayers. In the end, if Paltrow wants to bash “super rich white” people, she should probably start with herself.
