Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about the emotional shift she faced after both of her children moved out, admitting the transition into an empty nest caught her off guard.
Quiet Home

The 53-year-old actress has daughter Apple, 22, and son Moses, 20, with ex‑husband Chris Martin, and told Today that the quiet house hit her twice – once when they first left, and again months later.
She said, “I really struggled when they all went.”
Paltrow explained that she felt steady at first before “falling off a cliff” again in September. While she’s proud to see them step into adulthood, she admitted the adjustment is “hard as a mother” after years of centering her life around their routines and well-being.
Children’s Successes
Paltrow has plenty to celebrate, though. Apple recently graduated from Vanderbilt University and has already secured a role in an upcoming Nancy Meyers film – a milestone her mother called “thrilling.”
Moses, meanwhile, is balancing his sophomore year at Brown University with a fast‑rising music career. Paltrow revealed he’s signed to Interscope Records and performs with his band People I’ve Met, praising him as “such a nice boy.”
As for the advice she gives her kids, Paltrow keeps it simple: follow the path that feels true – and avoid reading anything written about them.
She said, “It’s hard. It’s a difficult road, but it’s worth pursuing if it’s their absolute truth.”
Past Mentions
The Marty Supreme actress previously touched on the empty-nest topic during an Instagram Stories session with her followers.
She said in 2024, “I am kind of getting back in touch with this part of myself that I haven’t felt like since I was in my 20s before I had kids.”
“Like, a little more space and imagination, maybe. A little more inner space for what I might want to do that day, stuff like that. So, it’s evolving. It’s interesting.”
