George Clooney, known for pranking his fellow celebrities, pulled off a memorable joke involving Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Clooney shared how he used stationery appearing to be from particular people, to send letters posing as other actors.

One of his most talked-about pranks involved sending a letter to Tom Cruise, pretending to be from Brad Pitt.

“The Brad Pitt one was brutal. I sent it to Don Cheadle,” Clooney continued. “I sent it to Tom Cruise, saying they want to do [“Interview with the Vampire 2”], but this time Brad wants to play Lestat.”

Pitt played Louis de Pointe du Lac in the original Interview with the Vampire movie while Cruise famously played Lestat.

George Clooney Loves Pranking Hollywood

The Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise prank highlights George Clooney’s playful nature and his ongoing tradition of sending letters to his peers under false pretenses.

His efforts often lead to confusion and amusement among Hollywood’s elite.

Clooney and Pitt are working together on the new film Wolfs, which will be released in select theaters on Sept. 20 and air on Apple TV+ starting Sept. 27.

Clooney, who rose to fame for his role in the television series ER, also admits that he pranked Wolfs director Jon Watts.

“I messed with [Watts],” Clooney said in an interview with Variety. “I told him he’s never going to get [Pitt] … He stayed up all night because I said, ‘You have to work your pitch a little better.’”

What a card.

Started Pranking Back When They Were Filming Oceans 11

George Clooney, in an interview with Graham Norton in 2015, noted that his pranking of Brad Pitt began when the two filmed the 2001 film Oceans 11.

“I’m not sure how it started but we have done some terrible things to each other,” he revealed during the interview. “I had some stationery made up with his name on and would then send letters to other actors from Brad Pitt.”

And his pranks involve some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

“I sent Meryl Streep a letter from [Pitt] with a whole stack of dialect coach CDs saying that they may help her for her role in the Iron Lady.”

At the time, Clooney predicted, “I’m doing one now that I can’t tell you about but in a year you are going to hear I’ve been arrested – I’m not kidding because I think I’ve crossed the line.”

Thankfully, that never came to fruition. The arrest. But the pranking continued unabated to this day.
